VMware vSphere 4, vCenter Server updates now available
VMware has released vSphere 4 and vCenter Server updates -- right on track with users' predicted delivery date for the end of November.
One of the most important updates for the products is the addition of support for Windows 7 as a guest operating system (OS) and host for vSphere Client, and support for Windows Server 2008 R2 as a guest OS, according to SearchServerVirtualization.com.
Other updates for vSphere include support for VMware View 4, Microsoft Cluster Server, Intel Xeon 3400 series processors and an increased number of virtual CPUs per processor core.
Xen Cloud Platform 0.1 released to open source community
Xen Cloud Platform (XCP) 0.1 is now available for testing by developers, users and solutions providers.
XCP is an open source virtual infrastructure platform that combines a hypervisor and management tool stack to aid in cloud deployments. The new platform is meant to help steer users toward the future release of XCP 1.0, according to the Xen.org community blog.
An XCP roadmap has also been published and includes an outline of the new available features such as smart error recovery, Web-based multi-tenant management and provisioning and increased scalability.
