Systems Channel News Roundup for the week of Oct. 5-Oct. 9, 2009.

Active Directory beats Hyper-V R2 in popularity contest

A 2009 Windows Purchasing Intentions Survey conducted by SearchWindowsServer.com revealed that IT pros see the new Active Directory features in Windows Server 2008 R2 as the hottest features on their priority list.

More than 65% of 650 respondents said Active Directory improvements in Windows Server 2008 R2 are most important to them, followed by Remote Desktop Services cited by 48% of respondents. Hyper-V R2 Live Migration came in third with 35%.

New Active Directory features that are winning over users include better management of native accounts, the Recycle Bin feature in Active Directory Domain Services and the transition to PowerShell for script- and console-based administration.

Oracle Partner Network changes come at a price

Oracle Corp. is performing a face-lift on its Oracle Partner Network program with details expected at Oracle OpenWorld this Sunday.

The changes come in response to complaints that the current program doesn't allow for clear differentiation between partners. The revamped program will require partners to invest more to earn top-level designations, but Oracle executives have told partners that the higher cost will be offset with higher sales margins. Platinum, Gold and Silver tiers will replace the program's Certified Advantage Partner, Certified Partner and Partner levels, according to SearchITChannel.com.
