Red Hat working on new virtual offering
Red Hat's new virtualization offering, a standalone hypervisor based on a RHEL kernel with KVM, is expected to launch within the next few days.
The platform is less than 100 MB in size and supports up to 96 processing cores and 1 TB of RAM. It is bootable from a Preboot Execution Environment, flash, local disk or storage area network with dynamic memory page sharing technology that only Microsoft offers in its hypervisor, according to virtualization.info.
Red Hat has said that Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization (RHEV) is able to offer 98% of the performance of a bare-metal solution through the use of high-performance virtual I/O drivers.
Salesforce.com offers continuous revenue to VARs
Under Salesforce.com's Force.com program, VARs that use the vendor to customize applications on its cloud infrastructure can receive recurring revenue for as long as a specific end user contract lasts.
As part of the program, resellers pay Salesforce.com $7.50 per end user per month for the base infrastructure, develop products atop it and charge users whatever price they decide on. The end user price for Force.com's infrastructure ranges from a free trial for one application for up to 100 users to $75 per user per month for unlimited applications and 24/7 support, according to SearchITChannel.com.
Traditional VARs can receive a one-time-only 10% referral fee for soliciting customers to the company's business applications.
