Systems Channel News Roundup for the week of July 20-July 24, 2009.

Oracle's acquisition of GoldenGate exposes SAP weakness

Oracle's acquisition of GoldenGate, a real-time data integration vendor, has analysts speculating that SAP may now need to make its own acquisition to enhance its BusinessObjects' information management portfolio.

SAP customers are struggling with upgrades and migrations from legacy applications, according to SearchSAP.com. There is a high demand for the real-time data integration and availability services that GoldenGate provides, said Rob Karel, a principal analyst at Cambridge, Mass.-based Forrester Research.

"SAP cannot afford to ignore it and really needs to move quickly on this," Karel said. "One of the biggest pain points out there in the market is support for SAP migrations."

VARs: Microsoft using Linux drivers to fight VMware

Microsoft's decision to submit device driver code to the Linux community will primarily benefit Microsoft, according to IT pros and solutions providers.

To make it easier to run Linux on Microsoft Hyper-V, Microsoft released 20,000 lines of code and three Linux device drivers. The code was released under the General Public License, version 2.

Many VARs believe that Microsoft is using Linux to get a lead in the Hyper-V vs. VMware server virtualization battle, according to SearchITChannel.com.
