Systems Channel News Roundup for the week of June 1-5, 2009.

Cisco offers UCS incentives to partners

Cisco Systems Inc. will beef up its Unified Computing System with the addition of rack-mount server options.

The Unified Computing System (UCS) was originally intended as a blade server system but will now be available in blade or C-Series rack server versions, according to SearchDataCenter.com.

The company is continuing to encourage partners to buy into UCS by offering two new training certifications for the system -- data center architect and data center engineer. A new Data Center Channel Solution program has also been created to authenticate other vendors' products that work with UCS.

Mainsoft opens SharePoint to IBM developers

Microsoft will release software that integrates aspects of SharePoint's My Site portal with IBM's Rational Team Concert.

Mainsoft 2.0 allows developers to use blogs and wikis in SharePoint's My Site portal to share team development artifacts and incorporate SharePoint's Personal Profiles into IBM's Rational Jazz profiles, according to SearchITChannel.com.

Mainsoft will also add support for a Notes 8.5 release by updating its SharePoint Integrator for Lotus Notes by the end of this month.

IT integrators take on optimizing private clouds

Sigma Host LLC and 4Base Technology are aiming to increase the efficiency of private clouds by maximizing the amount of virtual machines running on an organization's hardware.

The two integrators are using beta software from FastScale Technology Inc. to change the way IT shops manage virtual servers. FastScale Stack Manager WorkGroup Edition looks at what a particular server is being used for and gets rid of all unnecessary software, according to SearchCloudComputing.com. What makes FastScale useful is that it does it all automatically, according to Paul Camacho, virtualization consultant with Sunnyvale, Calif.-based 4Base Technology.
