Systems Channel News Roundup for the week of May 11-15, 2009.

Hyper-V R2 features and Windows 7 create stir at TechEd

The upcoming release of Microsoft Hyper-V, Hyper-V R2, received several nods of approval from the TechEd 2009 audience.

The new version of the virtualization software will feature live migration, hot add/remove capabilities for relocating storage and support for 64 logical processors, according to SearchServerVirtualization.com. In comparison, the current Hyper-V version only supports 16 logical processors.

MED-V technology in Windows 7 also generated buzz in the TechEd community. The technology allows users to open applications that would otherwise be incompatible with older operating systems or Web applications.

Oracle adds Virtual Iron to its acquisition list

Oracle Corp. has announced that it has plans to acquire Virtual Iron Software Inc., a provider of server virtualization management software.

Financial details on the settlement have not been disclosed, but the deal is expected to be completed by the end of this summer.

Virtual Iron's focus on small and medium-sized companies could serve as a complement to similar products that Oracle acquired from Sun Microsystems, which it's aiming at larger companies, according to SearchOracle.com.

Fujitsu announces new blade server system with Intel processor

The new blade server system was designed to reduce energy costs and improve operational performance and uptime. The combination of the Intel Xeon Processor and ServerView Resource Coordinator is said to reduce provisioning and server exchange time by up to 90%, according to an official statement by Oracle.
