EMC: No plans to sell off VMware
EMC won't be selling off VMware any time soon, CEO Joe Tucci said this week.
"We have no intentions of separating these two companies," Tucci said Tuesday during an EMC strategy update in Boston, according to The New York Times.
EMC purchased a nearly 85% stake in VMware for $635 million in 2003, and rumors of a VMware sell-off pop up every few months. Rumored buyers have included Cisco Systems and Intel.
Sun tries to make hard cloud computing sell
Vendor enthusiasm for cloud computing does not match up to the reality that most data center managers face. Sun Microsystems found that out the hard way at this week's AFCOM Data Center World conference in Las Vegas, according to SearchDataCenter.com.
Sun CTO Greg Papadopoulos told attendees that they need to lead the charge and embrace cloud computing, but data center managers said that may not be feasible in this economy. In a November survey of AFCOM members, 77% said they don't plan on increasing their use of cloud computing.
Stratus embeds VI3 in servers for free
Stratus Technologies this week began shipping its ftServers with VMware Infrastructure (VI3) Foundation Edition at no extra cost, according to SearchServerVirtualization.com. Most vendors only embed VMware ESXi, which is free anyway, but Stratus said VI3 Foundation Edition makes its ftServer a more robust offering.
