Symantec gets into endpoint virtualization
Symantec is finally putting to use its acquisitions of Altiris, AppStream and nSuite. The security vendor this week announced the Symantec Endpoint Virtualization Suite, designed to provide software management in virtual, physical and hybrid environments.
The application virtualization management suite includes these four products: Workspace Streaming (from the AppStream acquisition), Workspace Virtualization (Altiris), Workspace Corporate and Remote (nSuite) and Workspace Profiles. All will be available by the spring, except for Workspace Profiles, which is due later in the year.
Ubuntu close to HP certification
Ubuntu Linux Server Edition is close to getting certified on Hewlett-Packard's ProLiant x86 servers, according to the Enterprise Linux Log.
Canonical, the vendor that supports the Ubuntu distribution, said HP won't ship the servers with Ubuntu preloaded. But HP will assure customers that it will work if they install the operating system themselves.
Ubuntu has been certified on Sun Microsystems' x64 servers for about a year, and a Canonical executive said the goal is to get Ubuntu certified on all major manufacturers' servers within a few years.
