Vendor Management Strategies for the CIOHP proposes 3Par buyout to help converged data center development
Hewlett-Packard Co. wants to use its proposed deal to buy 3Par to bolster its converged data center movement.
In response to Dell's offer of $18 per share ($1 billion) last week, HP offered a $24 per share ($1.6 billion) cash bid on Monday morning for 3Par and its data storage expertise, according to SearchDataCenter.com.
Some medium to large companies fear vendor lock-in while others think dealing with the same company for any issues with a stack may be beneficial. Whether Dell or HP wins the 3Par prize, the acquisition is seen as part of a push by major server makers to expand into storage as well as networking gear that they can sell together into large data center accounts.
(Note: As of Friday morning, 3Par accepted a still-higher bid of $27 per share from Dell.)
