The Oracle VirtualBox 3.2 beta version has a variety of new features and support that are designed to improve customers' virtual machine (VM) performance.
Oracle VirtualBox 3.2 is now called Oracle VM VirtualBox after Oracle's acquisition of Sun Microsystems. The new version includes memory ballooning, which decreases the RAM used by a VM, and CPU hot plugging for Linux and specific Windows guests. The Oracle VirtualBox 3.2 beta allows solutions providers to delete snapshots while a VM is running, provides support for multi-monitor guest setups in the GUI and includes Universal Serial Bus tablet and keyboard emulation.
Oracle Corp. has also fixed a few issues in this new VirtualBox version, such as massive display performance losses and crashes with the openSUSE 11.3 milestone kernel during an early boot in the VM manager. Seamless and full-screen command-line switches were also added to the GUI in Oracle VirtualBox 3.2.

The new toolkit includes tools that were previously included in the Systems Management Server 2003 Toolkit: Delete Group Class, MP Troubleshooter, Preload Package and Send Schedule. Customer demand prompted the return of these tools along with new features, such as an updated Security Configuration Wizard Template for SCCM 2007 SP2 and Windows Server 2008 R2, according to Microsoft.
The SCCM 2007 Toolkit V2 still has all of the original 2007 Toolkit tools, and solutions providers will also find the MSI package easier to install, Microsoft said.
CA boosts ARCserve data protection software with new application
CA has augmented its ARCserve data protection software by adding ARCserve D2D to ARCserve Backup 15 as well as improvements to replication and high availability (HA) applications.
The new application, ARCserve D2D, has disk backup with a bare metal restore and can either work alone or in sync with ARCserve Backup 15, according to SearchDataBackup.com. D2D's single snapshot backup can restore files, volumes, databases or the entire system to physical and virtual servers in one single instance. A Web 2.0 interface, which starts up in a Web browser, and a management GUI makes backup progress visible and includes links to support resources.
Other enhanced applications include ARCserve Replication 15 and ARCserve HA 15. ARCserve Replication 15 includes continuous and periodic data replication that balances resource utilization, support for Exchange Server 2010 and replication of compressed or deduplicated files. ARCserve High Availability 15 has the ability to replicate and fail over a whole physical or virtual system, including the operating system, system state, applications and data.Check out more systems channel news.
