VMware extends vSphere Enterprise Edition availability

VMware extends access to vSphere Enterprise Edition
VMware Inc. has reversed course and will not discontinue
vSphere 4 Enterprise Edition, which it was set to stop selling Dec. 15.
The company quietly informed its channel partners a few weeks ago and removed the Enterprise Edition's end-of-life notice in pricing literature, according to SearchServerVirtualization.com.
Enterprise was to be phased out for Enterprise Plus, which has Host Profiles, the distributed virtual switch and all of Enterprise's features -- but also carries a higher price tag. A VMware spokesperson said the company made the change to give customers more time to budget for vSphere upgrades.
Oracle pushes VAR specializations

Oracle OpenWorld 2009, Oracle urged its VARs and integrators to specialize in vertical markets and specific technologies.
Oracle Corp.'s co-presidents Charles Phillips and Safra Catz emphasized that partners can solve customers' problems and boost their own profitability by developing their industry- and technology-specific skills, according to SearchITChannel.com.
