Oracle-Virtual Iron acquisition close to happening

The rumors of an Oracle-Virtual Iron acquisition appear to be true. Oracle has signed a letter of intent to acquire Virtual Iron Software, according to SearchServerVirtualization.com. A Virtual Iron insider told the site that Oracle executives are now examining Virtual Iron's operations before they decide to officially make the deal.

A Virtual Iron acquisition would be somewhat of an admission by Oracle that its own attempts to get into virtualization have failed. But analysts were quick to point out that acquiring Virtual Iron will not solve all of Oracle's virtualization problems. Virtual Iron says it has just 2,000 small and medium-sized business customers, and its technology lags behind that of market leader VMware.
