Offering server virtualization services can be confusing if you don't fully understand the technology. This two-part Channel Expert Podcast is geared to expanding the understanding of server virtualization and the best ways for solution providers to offer server virtualization services. In the first podcast, Toby J. Velte, data center consultant and author of Green IT: Reduce Your Information System's Environmental Impact While Adding to the Bottom Line, describes the pros and cons of server virtualization. In the second podcast, infrastructure architect Jason Kappel of Avanade discusses how to use server virtualization to manage processing workloads.

Part 1: Pros and cons of server virtualization

Server virtualization allows more workloads to run on less server hardware, but it's not a solution for every situation. In this first podcast in a two-part series, Toby discusses the benefits of server virtualization -- such as hardware consolidation, workload mobility and standardization -- and explains the downsides to server virtualization -- including hardware bottlenecks, especially in high I/O environments -- that solution providers should understand before offering server virtualization services to their clients.

Part 1of the Channel Expert Podcast: Listen to Toby Velte describe the pros and cons of server virtualization.

Part 2: Using server virtualization to manage processing workloads

Server virtualization provides tremendous flexibility, allowing workloads to be throttled and migrated among systems in various locations. In this second part of the podcast series, Jason reviews some workload management tactics, such as workload throttling, that can help solution providers make the most of server virtualization services and help the client get more from server virtualization.

Part 2 of the Channel Expert Podcast: Listen to Jason Kappel discuss how to use server virtualization to manage processing workloads.
