While the VCP credential may not technically be necessary to work with VMware products, it shows potential customers that your employees have the necessary skills to handle a virtualization project. Also, the Enterprise reseller partner level for VMware requires one VCP for developing countries and two VCPs for developed countries. At the end of the day, you want to stand out among your competition, and having a staff with VCP credentials can certainly help with that.
