Where should systems VARs invest in 2008 to most effectively grow their businesses?

The hot but relatively uncrowded space at this time seems to be in the field of business intelligence, especially Microsoft BI. Microsoft shipped Office 2007 last year -- it has new features to integrate with Analysis Services and Reporting Services 2005 and 2008. VARs should spend time investing in cross-training their developers and DBAs in the Microsoft BI suite.

Outsourcing, virtualization and consolidation also show strength for 2008. There will be considerable opportunities to upgrade and train clients moving from SQL 2000 and 2005 to 2008, as well as upgrading from SQL 2000 to 2005.
