QUESTION POSED ON: 05 April 2007
What should VARs be aware of before trying to license Windows Vista for a client who is planning to virtualize?

>
The license for Windows Vista Enterprise provides for a single virtual instance of windows Vista as part of the base license. If the client deploys other virtual instances of Windows Vista, the reseller should advise the client that a license will be required for each instance and should be purchased separately.

Additionally, volume license agreements with Microsoft typically confer downgrade rights to businesses, which will allow the company to run Windows XP or even Windows 2000 legitimately using their Windows Vista virtual instance license without paying any additional fees.
